Saturday, September 24th
4th Avenue, Downtown Ellensburg
Parade begins at 10:00 am
Giant Puppets, Masks, & Sculptors
The parade begins at 4th Avenue near Ruby Street and will head west through the Farmer’s Market before turning north onto the alley near Rotary Pavilion and the Kid’s Activities. Bring a camera, as the parade makes for great photos!
In 2011, local puppeteer Brian Kooser invaded the streets of Downtown Ellensburg dressed as a giant robot and was the hit of that year’s festival. Ever since then, giant puppets, costumed children, and buskers have thrown an Arts Parade on Saturday morning at 10 am as the official kick-off for the Busker in the Burg festival. After the parade, the puppets may be seen roaming throughout downtown.
Prior to the festival each year, Kooser offers several puppet making workshops in which he shares more than 20 years of celebration art experience and provides the necessary tools for participants of all ages and skill levels to create their own celebration pieces. The puppets are made possible by funding from the Ellensburg Downtown Association and the Ellensburg Arts Commission.
